Fundamental Pictures was conceived from a creative bond between Shlok Sharma and Navin Shetty to collaborate with filmmakers who dare to dream. Shlok a mumbai based award-winning filmmaker and Navin a colorist, creative visionary and founder of post production company Nube studio both known for their passion, dedication and inventiveness.
The first feature under the banner of “Fundamental Pictures” ZOO (India’s 1st Feature Film shot entirely on an iPhone) was released in 2017, world Premiered at the 22nd Busan International Film Festival, and the Indian Premier of the same was at the Jio MAMI 19th Mumbai Film Festival with Star. Soon after they launched “Cargo” a sci-fi film co-produced and directed by Arati Kadav which has represented India in International festivals SXSW Festival ,Chattanooga film festival and much appreciated for its novel storyline and screenplay. One of their latest films "Two Sisters and a Husband" directed by Shlok Sharma, had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival and Calgary international film festival. Also, their up-to-date production, "Privacy", directed and co-produced by Sudeep Kanwal, will be released soon. Dhundh, Eerypur, and Beautiful World are some of the Fundamental Pictures' award winning short films .
The film Two Sisters And A Husband directed by Shlok Sharma is the latest selection for the Jio MAMI 22nd Mumbai Film Festival with Star.Shlok Sharma is a Mumbai based Indian filmmaker and writer. He began his career assisting the master-storyteller Vishal Bhardwaj on The Blue Umbrella & Omkara. He then went on to assist one of the most influential Indian filmmakers, Anurag Kashyap on No Smoking, Dev D & That Girl In Yellow Boots. Shlok is also the Second Unit Director on Gangs Of Wasseypur I & II. He marked his debut as a filmmaker with the critically acclaimed Haraamkhor, starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Shweta Tripathi. In 2017, along with his now business partner Navin Shetty, Shlok started his own company Fundamental Pictures. Thereon, under the same production house, he went on to direct his next feature Zoo, produced by Navin Shetty & Anurag Kashyap, which also happens to be the first Indian feature film to be shot entirely on an iPhone. The film premiered at the Busan International Film Festival in 2017. Both these films are now streaming on Netflix. Two Sisters And A Husband, also produced by Navin Shetty & Anurag Kashyap, is Shlok’s third feature film, marked its World Premier at the Tribeca Film Festival 2022. It delves into a tabooed aspect of society.
Starting his career with ADLABS Pvt. Ltd. in the 90s, Navin Shetty is a creative visionary and entrepreneur, with a spectacular portfolio of work ranging from films such as Omkara, Kaminay, Kahaani 2, Force, RAW, Badhai Ho and series like Aarya, Ajeeb Dastaans and Ray, not to mention over 10,000 TV commercials, as a colourist and he continues to spearhead the world of post-production in the Indian film industry. As the founder of NUBE studio, situated in the cultural and creative capital of India, Mumbai, he has to his credit a history of collaborations with leading production houses, cinematographers and directors in various capacities.
Navin, along with Shlok Sharma, launched the film production company, Fundamental Pictures in 2017. Navin is committed to mentoring emerging talents, and has a sustained collaborative work relationship with the likes of veteran Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane and Shlok Sharma. Apart from Zoo, the production projects include Cargo (a sci-fi film directed by Aarti Kadav) and Chingum (a short film directed by Mihir Fadnavis), Harami (an unreleased film directed by Shyam Maddiraju) ,Two sisters and a husband (third film directed by Shlok sharma )and Privacy (an unreleased feature film by Sudeep Kanwal).
